Treating and Preventing Frostbite

300 914105 Treating and Preventing FrostbiteMost people associate dangerous and damaging burns with heat and fire, but injuries associated with cold burns, or frostbite, can be equally damaging and serious. Similar to a heat or fire burn, frostbite occurs when skin or tissue is damaged (in the case of cold burns, due to contact with extreme cold). When parts of the body are exposed to low temperatures for long periods of time, blood vessels constrict to help restrict blood flow and protect an individual’s core temperature. This combination of cold temperature and restricted blood flow can freeze the tissue, causing permanent damage.

The frostbitten areas should be placed in warm water (never hot water) or if water is not available, they should be put in contact with the warm skin of another person. While it may seem natural to warm up afflicted skin with friction. Click Here :http://www.hepcsurvivors.com

Common experiences at this stage includes dry, flaking and swelling. The skin may keep pink or red for a few days.

Here are a few of famous remedies.

Aloe Vera - Break off the leaf of aloe vera and get the juice. Try to gently apply it on the blister 2-3 times throughout the day. It’s more effective if used in the Early and Blister Stages of a cold sore. Aloe Vera is one of the best natural medicinal plants that can help relieve the pain and heal the skin.

Apply Ice - When you first feel the symptoms like tingling or itching around your mouth, it’s the sign that a cold sore will occur later. You could wrap a few ice cubes inside a thin piece of towel. Put it on the area you feel the symptom and hold it as long as possible. The ice can kill the blister and stop it coming out of your skin. But you have to be cautious not to hold it too long as the cold may frostbite your skin.

Echinacea - Echinacea can be taken to cure and prevent a cold sore outbreak. Use the herbal medicine to prepare an extract. Soak a cotton ball within the liquid and apply it on the sore for few minutes 3-4 times a day.

It will soften the scab and avoid it from painful cracking during the Scabbing Stage. You can also cut a clove and rub it on the sore. Do not overuse the garlic because it can cause skin irritation.

How To Treat Frostbite Properly

dilemma frostbite 2 1207 lg How To Treat Frostbite ProperlyWhen going about treating frostbite there are some key things to remember. Keep in mind that the rewarming process is going to bring a great deal of pain, which is why you should have some ibuprofen or an over the counter medication on hand. The next thing you will want to do is gather a few supplies that will help you in treating your frostbite, the first of which is a small camp stove to heat the water and a pot that is large enough to stick your body part in. Make sure that you are able to put your entire body part in it without having it touch the sides. The sides will be very hot. You will also want a thermometer to check the temperature of the water you have prepared.

You will want to make sure to heat the water to the correct temperature, between 105 and 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Make sure that when you put the affected body part in the water, it is submerged completely. This is important so the rewarming process can take full effect. Pour all of the heated water into the pot or receptacle that you have collected. Completely immerse the body part in the water so it is not touching the sides of the receptacle whatsoever. Heat up some more water to the temperature specified above, and replace it with the water that has cooled down.

Doing this is important so you will keep the water at a hot enough temperature where it is able to treat the frostbite successfully. You will want to repeat this cycle of replacing the water until all of the tissue on your skin has softened and all discoloration is gone. The entire process usually takes up to an hour, but it can work in as little as thirty minutes. After you are done soaking the affected area in hot water you will want to prepare a bath that consists of antibacterial soap and warm water. Immerse the entire area for around five minutes so it will not become infected. Infection is an additional complication that you don’t need.

Then you will want to air dry the area and apply an ointment to sooth the surface layer of skin. You will also have to cover the entire area with gauze so as to prevent further damage to the tissue and infection. Take extreme caution not to stay outdoors too long and keep the area covered up for at least several days after treating it.
